Large octavo, original decorated cloth boards, many b&w plates, 27 colour plates, pp xl 1102. This is one of the copies that (as noted by Whittell) has a printed '1900' label pasted over the publication date at lower title page. Professionally and beautifully restored. With map, all 131 b&w plates (plus a second copy of the 'Eagle's Look-out' plate, 27 colour plates of eggs, index. Corners lightly bumped. Bright and clean. Near-fine condition. An ornithological and oological classic by the leading Australian authority of the time, James Archibald Campbell (1853-1929). Campbell was one of the founders of the (Royal) Australasian Ornithologists' Union, a keen conservationist and a pioneer bird-photographer. Campbell's collection of eggs is held by the National Museum of Victoria.
