Laid in is a two sided autographed letter signed by Elaine Steinbeck containing her letterhead to David and Toni (Heyler). David Heyler was a very close friend to and collector of Steinbeck's works. In the letter, Elaine Steinbeck explains that this is the first volume of The Library of America edition of Steinbeck's works. She states that she is the co-editor of this volume and how John would have gotten a kick out of it. She goes on to ask about plans for our upcoming Christmas vacation.
