Rubbing and wear to leather on spines, with losses to heads of both. Some cracking to hinges, primarily in Volume II. Light markings and marginalia. Text blocks remain bound well. Nicely illustrated, with dozens of black-and-white plates throughout. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. A rather scarce and early edition on excavations of Pompeii since 1819, which had been primarily excavated by Western European archeologists since the mid-18th Century.
