Advert to rear: REYNARD THE FOX / A New Version by David Vedder / Profusely Illustrated by Gustav Canton, of Munich and Dusseldorf; and Lithographed by Schenck & Macfarlane, 19 St James' Square, Edinburgh / Price 6s, in Handsome Illuminated Cover; or, bound in morocco, 17s 6d. This copy one of those in 'handsome illuminated cover' -- paper covered card boards with early design. 15 lithographed plates, many coloured; various smaller illustrations too. Second edition, undated but somewhere between 1853 and 1856. A very rare edition. Condition as follows: Wear to extremities. Spine has lost some paper at top; appears to be covered in an old tape used for a repair. A couple of small, inconsequential tears to leaves. Some light browning. Overall good; sound and clean, but showing its age.
