First appearance of new poems --- First edition to include 18 new poems, as well as Akhmatova's famous and striking portrait by Iurii Annenkov, and the first to be printed abroad. This is the second edition overall, after the first published in 1921 as 'Anno Domini MCMXXI', just weeks after the execution of the poetess' first husband, the poet N. Gumilev. This edition also includes two earlier cycles: 'Golos Pamiati' and 'Podorozhnik' ['The Voice of Memory' and 'Plantain']. The latter was also first published in 1921: both 'Anno Domini' and 'Podorozhnik' are indicated as "sold-out" in the publisher's catalogue at the end of the volume. Condition:Upper wrapper laid down and spine and lower wrapper renewed, original cover a bit spotted and creased; minor foxing internally, occasional soiling or creasing, last leaves with marginal closed tears, blank leaf with small hole.
