Full cover title is "Constitution and Laws of the Lumber & Camp Worker's Industrial Union of the One Big Union : Adopted January, 1919 / Amended July, 1919 / Amended, January 1920". This Constitutional pamphlet was likely published shortly after its final amendment in January, 1920 and, would have been considered to be seditious material by the government of the day. It also may be one of the IWW's earliest Canadian publications. The IWW was outlawed in Canada from 1918-22, so any "undesirables" "agitators" or "organizers" holding IWW printed literature - including this pamphlet - would have been jailed and / or deported. (see "Whence They Came" by Barbara Walters (U of O Press, 1988, p. 72 & 89). Founded in Chicago in 1905, the members of Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) were nicknamed "Wobblies" - a name which stuck. Stapled wraps, 24mo size (5.25 inches tall), pp. 1-40 ; volume is toned with small stains and creases, else clean and unmarked throughout. This Wobblie Constitution appears be a fairly lonely survivor, as OCLC locates no hard copies of this scarce piece of Canadian labor history.
