The second title in Hawthorne's Grandfather's Chair series for children: stories on American history from the Puritans to the American Revolution. Apparently a variant binding, as BAL and Clark both describe the basket weave embossing on slate cloth, and all copies as having a black paper label on the front cover. There is no evidence that a label was ever present on this copy. Very scarce. BAL 7591; Clark A7.1. Provenance: Herschel V.
