Peter Fischli and David Weiss created this special book to accompany their 1999 exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. It consists of forty unbound photographs from their series Blumen (Flowers, 1997-98) richly colored double-exposures of blossoms, leaves, and raucous vegetal life. "Pursuing the artistic collaboration on which they have worked closely together since 1979, Peter Fischl and David Weiss have spent a year tracking down and photographing countless varieties of flowers, in various stages of blossom, through many country walks. Their project in this recent work is not botanical research, nor have they been follow ing some scientific procedure: their concept is aesthetic. They have in effect been regularly photographing gardens of different kinds for over ten years, and they began this new series focusing on flowers immediately after the garden project they created for Münster in 1997".
