The Strand Magazine. An Illustrated Monthly. Edited by George Newnes. Volume I. January to June, 1891. Printed in London. Edited by George Newnes. 658 pp, 9.75 x 6.75 , 8vo, hardcover 3/4 leather. In good condition, with minor rubbing and wear to exterior, primarily along edges and corners. Light cracking to hinge near rear. Text block remains bound well and in good condition. Light markings and marginalia. Staining around edges and corners of some pages. Nicely illustrated throughout with black-and-white sketches. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce first biannual printing, along with the inclusion of The Voice of Science by Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930). While Sherlock Holmes had existed in print since 1887, he would become popular in the July 1891 issue, which included the short story A Scandal in Bohemia. COLL1891ADFX
