The White Girl Caspary, Vera Fiction,Race

Sixth printing stated, published two months after the first. Black boards, with white lettering, show only a touch of shelfwear; binding tight; pages clean with prior owner signature in (erasable) pencil on front endpaper. Dust jacket, bearing Grosset & Dunlap colophon, has large chips to spine. The printing and state is a bit unclear: The book was published in both red and black bindings, and without a DJ, the original Sears and reprint G&D editions appear identical. (Also, there aren't all that many 1929 copies of 'The White Girl' in circulation, but enough of them appear to be sixth printings that that may be inaccurate.) Regardless, a fascinating novel: Caspary's first book, published 14 years before 'Laura,' about a Southern Black woman who moves North and passes as white. Despite the author's later successes, I don't know that 'The White Girl' was ever reprinted after 1929. 305 pages.
