Provenance: bookplate for Tho’s Daniell to the front paste downs. Thomas Daniell RA (1749 – 19 March 1840) was an English landscape painter who also painted Orientalist themes. He spent seven years in India, accompanied by his nephew William, also an artist, and published several series of aquatints of the country. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall (21.5cm). Condition Report Externally Spine – good condition – gilt titles to red and black leather labels, with five raised bands and gilt decoration, wear and marks, gilt to the red labels largely worn away, worn with loss to the top of the spines. Joints – good condition – rubbing and marks. Corners – good condition – bumped and worn. Boards – good condition – polished calf boards, marked and worn. Page edges – good condition – top edge darkened, others red. See above and photos. Internally Hinges – good condition – sound. Paste downs – good condition – marbled, bookplate to the front. End papers – good condition – marbled, subsequently tanned. Title – good condition – tanned with some foxing. Pages – good condition – tanned with some foxing. Binding – good condition – attractive.
