There are some foxhunting countries whose names at once betray their situation. Few strangers, however, have ever heard of the hamlet of Puckeridge (it is not even a separate parish), which lies on the Old North Road between Ware and Royston, and from which this pack of fox hounds takes it name. To be exact of the 340 square miles of country over which the Puckeridge Hounds are entitled to hunt (including the areas neutral with the Hertfordshire and the Essex Hounds), about 208 square miles lie in Hertfordshire, 115 in Essex, and 17 in Cambridgeshire.
