With 12 plates by Samuel Luke Fildes. First edition. The original six parts of 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood', the final unfinished work of Charles Dickens. No more parts were published as Dickens died whilst writing. First issue, with the "eighteenpence" slip over the one shilling price to the front wrap of Part VI. Complete with all twelve plates called for, as well as a portrait frontispiece and engraved title page to Part VI. In the original publisher's green/blue paper wraps, in a custom red faux leather clam shell case. Condition: Good. The wraps are in very tatty condition with disintegration along the spines and several of them detached from the text blocks. Part V is pulling away from the stitching throughout the text block, with a number of detached pages in the centre, but all pages present. All other parts are complete and internally still held together with the original stitching. The attractive case is in excellent condition. It appears some of the adverts at the back of the parts may be missing - please let me know if you need further detail on these, but note that this set is priced to take that into account.
