Publisher's printed wrappers, a little rubbed but very good. 29, [1]pp. Accra, Samuel Silvanus Cole, Government Printer, The brainchild of governor Sir William Maxwell, K.C.M.G., the Accra club was officially opened on 22 June 1897 and was reserved exclusively for Europeans. Th club provided a library and social space for paying members and their guests, with facilities for the playing of billiards and cards. In the back of the volume is a list of members. In 1899 the Gold Coast was still under British colonial rule. Whilst groups like the Aborigines' Rights Protection Society were already campaigning for political autonomy during this time, Ghanian independence would not come until 1957.
