8vo. 250x190mm. Original paper wrappers, rubbed and with tape repair to spine. The signed etching by Hayter numbered 17/100, plate size 158-113mm; this is a copper plate with engraving, with scorper and soft-ground etching, signed and dated in plate 1939. Black and Moorehead states that there were 'artist proofs 1-5 and an edition of 30 on Monval paper. This makes the copy in the magazine the first state of four, however there is question as to the size of the edition. We can only surmise that the publishers hoped to sell an edition of 100 copies with the etching. However with start of the war and Hayter leaving for New York, they may have reduced the edition and curtailed it at 30 copies.
