FUNNY FOLKS ALBUMS. Three volumes [of 4] of Miniature folding down panoramas. The following as titled.Funny Folks Album. Master Chubb and his Dog. No publisher given . Not dated but circa 1890. Date and imprint from copies in National Library of Scotland, miniature book. Oblong in format, bound in colour decorated blue paper wrappers, illustration on lower cover. Inside is an 8 panel concertina panorama which opens vertically, on each panel is a large bright chromo-lithograph illustration with a humorous 6 line verse below. Adventures of a very naughty dog belonging to Master Chubb, who simply can't contain himself when he spies geese, a boy, cattle, etc. Only the sight of a whip at the end brings contrition, which we trust is ephemeral. The dog looks most like a dachshund, although the breed isn't specified, and one can't be sure that is what the artist intended. The wrapper is slightly dusty, fragile along spine else very good. Adventures of two children trying to catch a mouse . The house suffers jugs of water, broken plates etc. to try and catch the mouse. They never caught it. -perhaps I shouldn't say! The wrapper slightly dusty, very fragile along the hinge, front cover with small corner chip missing in lower right corner, and some of the other sheets are delicate but holding, otherwise in very good condition. All volumes are scarce due to their ephemeral nature and rarely come up at auction.Only four titles can be found in UK library's. But also, which I think is more likely as listed in Wikipedia. There was a magazine titled 'Funny Folks' a British periodical published between 1874 and 1894. It was published in London by Scottish newspaper proprietor James Henderson. These were often satirical in tone, with some by john Proctor known as Puck, and some from German and French sources. It was aimed at an adult lower middle-class audience, rather than at children, and benefited from innovations in the use of cheap paper . I suspect these relate to the periodical. I have only ever seen three titles in this series. Not only that, John Proctor who worked regularly on Young Folks and Funny Folks, is very similar to the illustrations found in these albums. Due to greedy hackers the whole library system in the UK is unable to be utilized. So unable to continue my research. There is only one set held listed on Jisc Library Hub and a small number of single issues.
