Philippines - Handcrafted Map Of The Philippines From The Estate Of A Wwii Veteran. Raymond Webb

This interesting textile map is possibly a souvenir from the Pacific Theater during World War II, or the occupation period thereafter. A simple and somewhat clumsy map of the Philippines notes major islands, cities, and surrounding bodies of water. A large victory 'V' is overlaid atop the image, while an eagle soars above the title with flags of the United States and the Philippines. The item was acquired from the estate of veteran Raymond Webb in Baltimore, Maryland. There are two enlistment records I can find that might be possible matches, however it doesn't appear that either individual served overseas. Perhaps acquired as a keepsake from a fellow veteran after returning home from the Pacific Campaign? Sheet Width (in) 32.5 Sheet Height (in) 64 Condition Description Manuscript on rough burlap or coconut fiber with tasseled ends. Several different colors of ink, plus black and brown pen. Creased in the lower left and there are several tears and small holes along the outer edges. A few spots near the upper center and some discoloration along two vertical streets along the length of the sheet. Admittedly I'm not expert in textiles, but I've had an art conservator review the item in person, and he believes the item is mid-century with later updates to 'freshen' the color. Good condition overall.
