A new edition in three volumes - Volume I is separate (520pp) and Volumes II and III (367pp and 395pp) are bound together in quarter leather with marbled boards. This edition dates from 1803 (Vol. I) and 1804 (Vols. II and III) - there were a number of editions published in the 1790s. The spines have some chipping at the top and bottom, the title panel is lost and there is a little cracking along the edge next to the front panel but the binding is secure enough. Rubbing and fraying to the corners with some surface and edge wear. Browning to the page edges. Browning to the endpapers with the name of a previous owner in ink to the front free endpaper - Lady Wale of Shelford near Cambridge. A family bookplate is also on the front pastedown. Browning and spotting in a number of places with the twelve engravings most affected. The pages are otherwise generally unmarked.
