47pp, [1]. First and terminal leaves as pastedowns, wrappers included in pagination. With eight plates of woodcuts printed in sanguine. Original publisher's plain paper wrappers, title in manuscript to upper wrap. Very minor wear to extremities. Internally clean and crisp, a fine copy. One of Glasgow-based published James Lumsden's most popular and enduring juvenile chapbooks. The oval woodcut on the title-page varies, in this instance a harnessed horse is depicted. The woodcuts have been attributed to Thomas Bewick, they certainly show his influence, and may have conceivably originated in his workshop. Roscoe & Brimmell 72. Size: 32mo
