Williams Wynne, D.S.O., M.A., Lord Lieutenant of Merioneth and President of the Merioneth Historical Society – This is the first volume of the projected History of Merioneth from the earliest times to the present day. Merioneth has not been without its historians in the past and it could well have had a county history in the seventeenth century from the hand of Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt, or in the nineteenth century from that of W. W. E, Wynne of Peniarth. A county history in either of those centuries would have been very different from the one which is now planned and would probably have been published by private enterprise and financed by subscription. The project now begun is under the auspices of the Merioneth Historical and Record Society which has for its primary aim the study of the county, including family history, literature, folklore, archaeology, and all the various subjects which come under the designation of Antiquities. A secondary object of this activity is to place on record for posterity a concise account of Merioneth up to the twentieth century. From the Preface by B. Maelor Jones, Chairman – This first volume is the work of Professor E. G. Bowen and Mr. C. A. Gresham, and the Society is greatly indebted to them. The publication of this volume has only been made possible by grants from the Marc Fitch Fund, the Council for British Archaeology and the Merioneth County Council from its Welsh Church Fund, to all of whom the Society tenders its grateful thanks. This large book, 298 pages is in near-fine condition. The only fault is very slight discoloration on the top of the pages. The dust jacket is in very-good condition with the spine quite faded and a small piece of the front tab has been cut out and a penciled price written in above the incision. The dust jacket is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. There is an ownership signature on the first free endpaper of a Mr. Jones in Llanrwst. This book is in a wonderful collectible condition that is very scarce today.
