First edition. 4to. (10 x 7 inches). v, [4], 4-584pp. In a contemporary ¾ library Morocco over marbled boards. Gilt lettering on spine. Head of spine with some loss of leather, else with light scratches and minor rubbing. Library rubber stamp on front pastedown and title. Library card in pocket pasted to rear pastedown. Two pages with torn and repaired top corners (see image). Two content leaves with creases at top corners. Leaves uniformly toned otherwise in very good condition. A relatively scarce monthly magazine that was published between 1885-1906. It was meant for the late Victorian outdoorsy type. Includes travel, recreation and sporting news and descriptions. These include: Around the world on a bicycle, travel through Khorassan (Iran and the Caspian region), boxing, baseball new rules, camping, history of canoeing in America, building a cabin, fishing fly casting tournament, (trouting in Rockies), California, yachting (clubs in San Francisco), shooting and hunting, etc… fully illustrated with more than 20 works by Frederic Remington and others including a color lithograph by Kelly. It also includes the first appearance of a story by the 26-year-old Frederic Remington entitled: Coursing Rabbits on the Plains. This was a cowboy sport that Remington enjoyed, where jack rabbits were chased on horseback and pocked by long sticks.
