1st edition thus, 1840. A Good+ copy. 8vo., 576 pp., bound in publishers half leather and marbled paper boards. 6 compartment spine with titles in gilt. Illustrated with engraved portrait frontispiece of Tregonwell Frampton, the father of the turf. Tips, edges and spine rubbed. Hinges are tender. Frontis has very light foxing with plate marks visible. Text edges have some light dust. Volume II included but is missing the front board and pages until vii and is missing part of the spine. The influential Tregonwell Frampton, known as the "Father of the Turf" was keeper of William's horses, and performed the same task for Queen Anne, George I and possibly Charles II and James II. He did much to improve the breed.
