Faust is a tragic play in two parts by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, usually known in English as Faust, Part One and Faust, Part Two. Nearly all of Part One and the majority of Part Two are written in rhymed verse. Although rarely staged in its entirety, it is the play with the largest audience numbers on German-language stages. Faust is considered by many to be Goethe's magnum opus and the greatest work of German literature. Harry Clarke’s illustrations originally appeared in a deluxe limited edition of Goethe’s Faust, published in London by George G. Harrap and Company Limited, copyright 1925, and are reproduced in this volume with their permission. This beautiful book, 222 pages measuring 308mm X 290 is in fine condition. The binding is black leather with gilt decorations and the page edges are all done in gilt as well and the book has a red cloth page marker. One of Franklin’s finest productions.
