This composite aerial photograph provides a detailed overview of Paris and its immediate suburbs during World War II. Marked Restricted in the upper right, the first edition printing was part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers planning efforts to liberate occupied France and defeat Nazi Germany. Major thoroughfares like the Champs Elysees and geographic landmarks such as Isle de Cite are immediately recognizable. A legend in the lower left identifies the faintly visible overlaid data noting roads, railroads, and streams. An index, lower right, identifies the adjacent sheets in the growing network of composite photographs. The map was compiled and reproduced by the 660th Engineer Topographic Battalion in 1944.
