Written upon her return home following a trip which had commenced on April 12th, Howe apologizes, stating, "I hasten to express my regret at having found no time to send you a line before I left Boston." She adds in closing that she had heard a discussion on the "Mormon Question" at Mrs. Colburn's club was both "pleasant and instructive." Howe, though perhaps best known as the lyricist of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," was also a prolific essayist, as well as one of the 19th century's most prominent suffragists and the founder of women's clubs both in Boston and across the United States.
