[LGBTQ] [Sheet Music] Early Female Impersonator Sheet Music Archive including Julian Eltinge and "A Gay Caballero" from early 1900s. Archive of 9 sheet music's, ranging in size from 8" x 11" to 10.5" x 13.5". All are about 5 pages. Included are sheet music from several famous female impersonators including Karyl Norman, who was a prominent female impersonator from 1919 until his death in 1947. He billed himself as "The Creole Fashion Plate", and was known for his gowns and for writing many of his own Southern songs. By the 1930's, he was often seen performing at the "birthplace of American Drag", Fabulous Finocchio's. Also included is Julian Eltinge, who began performing in drag at age 10 and grew up to have one of the most successful Vaudevillian careers of the early twentieth century. Eltinge's reputation as a "female impersonator" was one of refinement, and his act flourished despite Vaudeville's strict moral guidelines. During the peak of his stardom, he was one of the highest paid stage actors in America. Touring under the genderless alias "Eltinge." At the end of these performances, he would remove his wig, much to the surprise of the unknowing audience. This archive includes: [1] "I Love The Ladies".
