Edition originale rare de cette publication, détachée d'un recueil et qui n'a pas fait l'objet d’un tirage à part. Le but des auteurs était de compléter les travaux de Duret par des recherches personnelles et de présenter une vue d'ensemble des artères nourricières du pédoncule. Henri Alezais (1857-1918) et Léon d'Astros (1856-1938) étaient médecins des hôpitaux de Marseille. Alezais devint professeur d'anatomie pathologique et d’Astros professeur de clinique infantile. Ils étudient ici successivement l'anatomie du tronc basilaire, de la cérebelleuse supérieure, de la cérébrale postérieure (avec les branches qui naissent de sa portion directe avant l'abouchement de la communicante postérieure et celles qui naissent après la communicante), de la communicante postérieure et de l'artère sylvienne ; puis ils étudient les dispositions particulières (variantes dans la distribution artérielle du pédoncule) et jettent un coup d'oeil d'ensemble sur la distribution de ces artères. Alezais et D'Astros describe some branches of the basilar artery which reach the pontomesencephalic sulcus and supply the crus cerebri. The branches of the superior cerebellar artery display numerous anastomoses with the terminal branches of the collicular artery, as Alezias et d'Astros have shown. The term 'pedunculo-quadrigemminal artery' used by Alezais and d'Astros would in fact be more precise, because this vessel supplies both the colliculi and the cerebral peduncle. A crucial artery in this region’s anatomy is the pedunculoquadrigeminal artery, also known as collicular artery (Alezais and D4Astros, 1892; Duvernoy, 1978; Ya¸sargil,1987).The perforating arteries of the lemniscal trigone stem not only from the superior cerebellar artery (SCA), as described in the few studies available in literature, but also from the posterior cerebral artery (PCA). Therefore, special attention should be paid during surgery to spare those vessels and associated perforators."
