20th-century edition of the beloved cookbook, featuring recipes from a wide array of European countries, but known in particular for its large collection of traditional Jewish recipes, in the rare original dust jacket. "This was the original 'way to a man s heart,' featuring authentic American recipes, European cooking, and Jewish favorites. It was put together by the cooking students at the Milwaukee Settlement House and was an important staple of the American kitchen for more than fifty years" (Jewish Museum Milwaukee). The first edition of The Settlement Cook Book is vanishingly rare. As a result, all pre-1960 editions have become highly collectible. This is the 29th edition, revised and enlarged. The first edition was published in 1901. Book near-fine, with interior generally fine other than a few tiny spots to endpapers and a tiny fragment of dust jacket affixed to front board. Dust jacket very good, with soiling and light wear to extremities. A desirable copy.
