Attractive superb example of the 1897 print of Volume 2 of Nansen's celebrated Farthest North with 16 colour illustrations and many more in black and white, mostly photos plus both fold out maps fully intact and in excellent condition attached at the back. A lovely example. A particular feature is the bright intact tissue guard to the illustrated frontis. The full set consists of two volumes. This is a must for any collector of the history of Polar exploration, This volume covers the voyage of exploration of the Fram 1893-96 and the fifteen months sledge expedition. It is a substantial book and measures: 25cm x 18cm x 5,5 cm. There may be an additional shipping cost overseas. Decorated blue cloth boards with gilt title to the spine and engraving style design to the bottom front corner. All crisp and bright. Some rubbing to corners, no bumping. Spine ends crushed and a little frayed at the bottom. Internally clean and bright with only a light age tone. No marks or inscriptions. The occasional foxing spot mostly to the page edges. The external edge, particularly the top is darkened, The binding is tight and all hinges are secure. There is some minor cracking. The plate between page 30 and 31 is partially detached at the bottom but present, clean and intact. A lovely book and unusual to find it with both maps secured and intact. Highly attractive and a fascinating insight into the golden age of polar exploration and Nansen who went on to a celebrated career in international politics.
