Volume I (286pp) and III (300pp) only of this three volume edition. Later edition published in Amsterdam in 1779. Originally published in France in 1761. Contemporary full leather binding with title and volume number stamped to the spines which have five raised bands. No labels present on the spines which have some chipping at the top and bottom and a little cracking to the edges. The corners are bumped with some rubbing and fraying and there is some light surface wear to the front and rear panels. Name of a previous owner in ink to the front free endpaper of the volume III - Lady Wale of Shelford near Cambridge. The front and rear free endpapers of volume I are missing and the binding feels a little slack at the front. There is the bookplate of another family member on the front pastedowns and Lady Wale's name in ink to the title page of Volume I. Browning around the edges of the endpapers. Volume III has some brown spotting to the title page. Small piece torn from the bottom corners of page 263 in volume I and page 241 in volume III. There is light browning to the pages which are otherwise generally unmarked.
