Stated First Edition. 'Being the Story of the Fortunes and Vicissitudes and Triumphs of the Island Once Known as Monchohate.' The book is in excellent condition. The covers are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering on the spine looks very good. There is only the usual little bit of crinkling at the spine ends. The cover edges and corners are in very good shape. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The interior of the book is in very nice condition as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. I'm not finding any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There are eight pages of illustrations on semi-glossy paper. There is little bit of amber foxing at the white margin of the illustration pages and on the one text page that faces the last illustration. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. There is a small loss at the top edge of the spine, the main reason for the only Good rating on the jacket. The spine is toned or tanned. The flaps are in solid condition. There is a teeny tiny loss at the tip of the front flap's top corner, not much larger than a speck. There is also a very small loss at the tip of the top corner of the rear flap. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. From the book: 'There is no other island quite like it off the coast of America. It is not only that the island seen from the air or from the sea gives the appearance of being legendary--something you can hardly believe because it is so perfectly poised there, and so brilliantly shaped-- but once you step ashore, you seem to have entered another age, richer than our own.' 'A rousing, lively book.'-- New York Times
