London: C. W. Daniel Company, 1935. 1st edition. 8vo. Publisher's orange cloth, black lettering. 192pp. Ownership signature and bookplate of George Frost Murphy, who served under Commander Donald MacMillan aboard the Bowdoin for summer expeditions to the Arctic Circle. Includes some pasted in newspaper clippings on the Peary controversy. Very good. The book "is the personal history of a twenty-five years" anti-Peary propaganda, combined with an attempt to offer complete justification for its title. The second part of the book contains Thomas Hall's "The Murder of Professor Ross G. Marvin" which examines the 1909 alleged murder and confession of Eskimo Kudlooktoo. Martin had accompanied Robert Peary's 1905–1906 and 1908–1909 expeditions. The author's previous book "Did Peary Reach the Pole?" (1911), written soon after the appearance of Peary's NORTH POLE, also questioned the accuracy of Peary's claim to have reached the North Pole.
