The second printing appears to coincide with the year of the author's death (1962), as the blurb on the rear panel of the dust jacket notes the year of her death. Vintage, an imprint of Random House, then published a paperback copy in 1963. Fine in a Very Good- Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and square with black topstain and no markings of any kind. The Binding is full light beige linen (color uniform throughout), front board very slightly curved, title, etc., in bright black to spine, endpapers unmarked except for the following inscription on the front endpaper "To a friend the book written by a friend" and a first name only signature, and all corners square and sharp. The Dust Jacket, which is protected in a mylar cover, is bright brown (color consistent throughout), with the original price ($4.50) intact on the front flap, chips to the top front panel and heel of spine, with visible wear at top and bottom. This collection of five stories has two films to its credit: The Immortal Story made into the 1968 film of the same name directed by Orson Welles and starring Jeanne Moreau, and Babette's Feast the source for the 1987 Danish film of the same name directed by Gabriel Axel.
