Brahms, Johannes (1833-1897) - Autograph postcard signed to composer Hermann Riedel - German composer, pianist, conductor of the Romantic period and one of the greatest composers of all time. Autograph postcard signed "J. Brahms". Postcard, 5.5 x 3.5 inch, Berlin, 1884 January 29. Addressed by Brahms to "Herrn Hofcapellmeister H. Riedel in Braunschweig". In German, in full: "Geehrter Herr, leider ist es mir unmöglich Ihrer frdl. Einladung zu folgen, da ich am 5 März in Dresden Koncert gebe. In aller Koncert- u. Reiseeile". Minor handling wear, else fine condition. Hermann Riedel (1847-191) was a German composer. Riedel studied piano and composition at the Vienna Conservatory. In 1874, he became a pianist correpetiteur at the Vienna Hofoper. In 1878, he settled in Braunschweig, where he was made music director of the Royal Opera. From 1882 to 1911, he was Kapellmeister of the Braunschweig court orchestra and director of the court theatre ensemble.
