4to, pp 2, vi, 70, letterpress title page in red and black, illuminated extra title page, 36 finely hand-coloured plates copied by H Noel Humphreys from British Museum originals with paper interleaves and commentary facing, uncut in original morocco backed silked cloth boards, spine gilt, internally tight and clean throughout, FIRST BOOK FORM EDITION, the first of two collections of finely coloured plates, issued originally in parts, illustrating scenes from the second volume of Smith's edition of Froissart. In the following year a sequel series of plates form the 'Paris MS' was issued in uniform format, although both volumes were issued separately. This copy, in original state, includes the rare December 1843 advertisment slip at the front explaining that the parts for this volume were now completed and a new set of parts for the Paris Manuscript would shortly be commenced.
