"This view of the University of Iowa reflects a quaint version of the modern campus, which has significantly expanded since 1930. But at the time of publication, it was a hopeful plan for the future. According to David McCartney at the University of Iowa, the image was based in part on a report by the Olmsted Brothers from 1905, and "presents a sweeping and idealized view of the campus that includes a proposed library designed along the lines of the Pentacrest buildings. Another 20 years would pass before the present-day brick structure appeared." Labels along the bottom of the view identify individual buildings, both real and proposed, including the stadium, observatory, library, and Memorial Union. The lack of parking likely contributes to a great deal of frustration among the students and staff today. The view is incredibly rare and known in only one example, in the Special Collections at the University of Iowa. This map is presented in conjunction with Geographicus."
