Typed Letter Signed ("R. L. Smiley") Advising The The Birmingham, Alabama Reporter That They Had Published An Ad For His Firm, Gate City Feature Film Co., A Week Earlier Than It Had Been Paid For, As Part Of A National Film Campaign, Thus Harming His Company's Campaign And Suggesting Redress Smiley, Richard L. African-Americana,Ephemera
One page typed letter on stationary of Gate City Feature Film Co., "Producers of High-Class Race Photo Plays" in Kansas City, colorfully overstamped in red with the company's "Gate City" logo and address. Dated 17 October 1921. A small chip at bottom corner, folded for mailing, else near fine. Single-spaced and approximately 250 words, Smiley makes no secret of his unhappiness that the newspaper mistakenly ran the ad in their October 15th issue, and suggests strongly that the newspaper re-run the ad on October 22nd, as contracted for. Gate City Feature Film Co. was founded in 1921, and as near as we can tell, left little imprint on the world of film. An attractive artifact from the short-lived Colored film company.
