"This scarce lithographed map highlights the potential for oil production across the entire state of California, as of July 1921. White (proven), blue (possible), yellow (improbable), and pink (impossible) have been applied to various areas according to their likelihood of containing oil. Known fields include Midway-Sunset (Kern County), Los Angeles City (L.A. County), and Kern Front (Kern County). Around the time the map was published, California was the world's leading oil producer, supplying nearly 20% of global needs. Designed by Lawrence Vander Leck and printed by the California State Printing Office for the California State Mining Bureau in 1921. Issued as one of two plates with a corresponding report (not included). Scarce, with only two entries noted in OCLC at Cal State Fullerton and U.C. Santa Cruz. Sources: OCLC# 824454524; Journal of Petroleum Technology;" Sheet Width (in) 19.5 Sheet Height (in) 25.8 Condition Description Printed on thin paper that is sharply creased and shows moderate toning along originally issued fold lines. The printed color shows light offsetting and there is some scattered discoloration visible in the upper margin. Between good and very good condition.
