"The cheapest, the best, and the most extensively used spelling book ever published." This was not an exaggeration. Webster's spelling book went through dozens of editions, was produced in millions of copies and was exported to multiple countries. Japanese editions contemporary with this copy existed, but from the ownership marks it looks like in this case a Japanese student got their hands on an American edition.
