A reprint of the smaller 1906 edition with the addition of seven black and white plates and a new colour frontispiece (Latimore and Haskell, p. 40); comprising 50 tissue-guarded tipped colour plates in total, numerous black and white illustrations, pp. [8], 125. In this beautifully illustrated work, Rackham was able to draw from his own experience of living in Edwardian London, 'Such is the importance of reality as a spur for his imagination, that Rackham's gnomes and fairies, almost outnumbered by boys, girls and grown-ups, live among real railings, dance on newly spun cobwebs, and flit about the Serpentine at dusk as the gas lights come on in the background.' (Hamilton, p. 77). Bound in original green cloth, gilt stamped birds, elves and decorations in signature impish Rackham style, gilt titles, further gilt decoration and titles to spine. Quarto, 29 x 22 cm. Boards and spine bright with some marks to front and spine, corners gently bumped, binding firm, very light foxing, one loose black and white plate, neat ownership inscription to ffep, pages and plates clean, very good condition.
